We won’t promise you the moon, but we will give you the world. The Chamber is a support system for businesses to gain insight and knowledge about how others are doing business in the ever-changing global marketplace.

WORLD TRADE CENTER
The Chamber’s World Trade Center has been a member since 1990 of the World Trade Center Association (WTCA) a not-for-profit, non-political association that represents 281 centers in 80 countries around the globe. The World Trade Center Association, the world’s largest private international trade association, was created to promote global trade and, through those relationships, foster peace and understanding.

The World Trade Center is committed to:
  • Focusing on trade education of the business community
  • Building global business leadership
  • Promoting a unified voice of the business community to our International Investors, to our membership, and to the small and medium sized business located in the greater Kansas City region.


GLOBE (Global Leadership Opportunities for Business Executives)
Presented by the WTC in partnership with the Kansas Women’s Business Center and Enterprise Center of Johnson County

Launched in 1998, GLOBE is a unique nine-month training program designed for international executives to explore/discuss methods and practices of conducting business abroad GLOBE XVI begins February 27-29, 2008 with the three-day trip to Washington D.C. GLOBE, facilitated by Kansas City-based Tercon Consulting, www.tercon.com is a tuition-based program that meets on the second Tuesday of each month starting March 11, 2008. More than 150 business leaders have graduated from GLOBE.

GLOBE FACTS FOR 2008:
  • Over 150 graduates have participated in the GLOBE program.
  • GLOBE XVI begins with the annual mission to Washington D.C., February 25-27, 2008.
  • The first GLOBE XVI class meets Tuesday March 11, 2008.
  • The nine-month program meets monthly on the second TUESDAY of each month Class meets either in the WTC Conference Room, 911 Main Street, 2500 Commerce Tower or the ECJC conference rooms at 8527 Bluejacket in Lenexa, Ks
  • GLOBE XVI joins the 2008 Partnership Mission planned for Fall 2008


    Global Future
    Created in 2002 in collaboration with Park University, Global Future is an exciting program offering university juniors/seniors an overview of global business cultures that exist in our metropolitan area. Students, recommended by their faculty advisors/professors, meet monthly at the World Trade Center starting each fall and learn from international business professionals. This program allows networking opportunities between students and presenters. Business presenters and academia are encouraged to participate!


    World Trade Center Book Club
    2008 dates being determined now
    The WTC book club was launched in 2006 with the facilitation of the Tom Freidman’s book, The World is Flat. Other titles have included: China, One Billion Customers, The Flight of the Creative Class and The Lexus and the Olive Tree. Conducted in partnership with UPS. Facilitation is done by key Kansas City executives engaged in global business activities. Sessions meet quarterly. This opportunity is ideal for busy executives who desire thoughtful and compelling insights to key global book titles.


    Certificates of Origin
    A certificate of origin, an official document stating the country of origin of the goods being delivered, is often required by the customs authorities of the importing country as part of the entry process. It may be required even though the commercial invoice contains the information. The Chamber provides this service at a significantly reduced rate exclusively to Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce members.


    World Trade Center Washington D. C. Mission
    The Washington D.C. Mission each February offers to companies and international executives the opportunity to meet with federal government and private agencies that facilitate international trade. Attendees experience a three-day intensive immersion with agencies such as U.S. Chamber of Commerce, U S Department of Commerce, Overseas Private Investment Corporation, International Trade Administration and World Bank that are key resources for companies doing business internationally as well as regional lobbyists and our state elected officials.
    Dates for 2008 are Wednesday February 27-Friday, February 29, 2008.


    Innovation World Conference
    This annual conference provides valuable information about emerging trends in technology, business strategies and best practices in knowledge management in a global environment. Join us Thursday, May 15 at the Liberty Memorial for some "Serious Play." The 2008 Innovation Conference will highlight Microsoft’s key innovations as well as feature executive speakers from KC area top innovative companies. Committee volunteers to help plan 2009's Conference are always welcome!


    2008 Ireland Partnership Mission
    The Chamber World Trade Center's delegation met with business executives, government and trade officials and policy leaders of Ireland from September 7-12. Over the past decade, Ireland’s real domestic product per head has doubled, and its national unemployment rate has declined from 16 percent to less than 5 percent. This has made the Irish Republic one of the ten richest countries in the world.




    FACTS:
    The World Trade Center serves 2,400 Chamber members in a bistate community encompassing eleven counties.
    • The license for the Greater Kansas City World Trade Center is owned by The Chamber.

    • The World Trade Center hosts trade officials, including United States Secretary of Commerce William Daley.

    • Funding for Chamber World Trade Center international initiatives is provided by regional companies.

    • Strategic partnerships include the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, International Visitors Council, Kansas City SmartPort, State of Missouri, World Trade Center - St. Louis.

    • World Trade Center International Investor levels are $2,500, $5,000, and $10,000.
